All Green Energy Challenge participating teams are invited to submit a poster for the Poster Competition summarizing their Green Energy Challenge project experience. Posters will be evaluated by ELECTRI Council members for their creativity, aesthetics, clarity of presentation, and technical content. ELECTRI International will offer three financial awards for outstanding posters.

NEC 2014 Changes

Every three years, the NEC is updated to reflect the newest installation practices utilized by the electrical industry, bringing about hundreds of changes to the code. This course provides attendees with a thorough review of the most significant changes in the 2014 NEC.

Getting into Solar…Without Getting on the Roof

Most solar electric systems are simple grid-tied types. Adding energy storage and “smart grid” capability through an intelligent upgrade called AC-coupling is one of the biggest growth opportunities in renewable energy, and an ideal point-of-entry for electrical contractors wanting to get into solar.

This workshop teaches the fundamentals of AC-Coupling, which adds a second smarter inverter/charger with attached energy storage (battery bank) to an existing PV/solar system, converting it from Grid-Tied to Grid-Interactive. Topics include recommended power ratings, system sizing, and other considerations.

Medium Voltage Cable Preparation Workshop: Ensuring Safety & Consistency While Saving Time

Workmanship issues are one of the leading causes of medium/high voltage splice failures. Accurate removal of the cable’s insulation, semi-conductive sheathing, protective jacketing and other materials produces consistent and uniform cable ends for splicing and terminations. Cuts have to be perfectly smooth. Removing cable layers must not damage the layer beneath it. Otherwise, voltage stresses lead to early cable failures. Safety is another consideration. Trimming cables with an ordinary knife risks serious injury.

In this workshop, Prysmian Power Cables & Systems will demonstrate the newest cable preparation tools that are available to help cable splicers perform safe, uniform and more consistent cable preparation. These specialty tools peel off jackets, remove concentric neutrals, score semi-con, and remove insulation. Better yet, these tools can provide up to a 50% reduction in cable preparation time – leading to reduced labor costs and the ability to restore power quickly during emergency cable restorations.
